I bet you’re wondering how and where this process of selecting the color of the year starts? We were too! Thankfully, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, went a little more in depth about this whole process back in 2015 when Pantone announced its official color was a wine-red called Marsala.

When picking this hue, she says that you start to notice certain colors getting more attention in the fashion field first. Since she and the rest of the team travels a lot, they start to see evidence of certain colors. Fashion is a large part of it, but they also have to justify naming a color by seeing it in other places as well. They look at new films coming up. What colors are being used? Is there a new effect being used? They look at upcoming cars, because when you talk about technology, you have to look at the finishes on cars because they are light-years ahead in the technology they use to create those colors. Once they get out there and people start to look at them, they say, “I’d like to have a lipstick in that color, I’d like to have a pair of shoes, I’d like to paint my living room that color.”

Wow! What an interesting perspective on how exactly these colors are chosen. Now introducing the 2017 color of the year… Greenery! Pantone has said that color "has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times."

Pantone describes the color of the year as “a symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” In 2017’s case, Greenery is extremely versatile and trans-seasonal! There are so many different color combos that will look great with this shade. From neutrals to brights & deeper shades, to pastels and metallics, Greenery is taking over this year!

Pantone describes this shade as truly refreshing and revitalizing, as well as a symbol of new beginnings. It’s a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. This specific shade illustrates the lushness of the great outdoors; it signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate. We all see Greenery everywhere in our everyday lives, whether it’s through the buildings around us or different global design choices.

Personally, I think olive green and army green have always been one my favorite colors to wear! But here are some of our current favorites:

  • Green Jeans: A pair of colored jeans are the perfect staple to your outfit! It gives just enough pop of color - Forever 21 has a great pair that you can find {here}.
  • Green Romper: Who doesn't love rompers? They're so perfect just to throw on to go run errands, or to dress up & wear them out to an event. Tobi's {cold shoulder romper} is so cute!!
  • Green Peplum Top: Peplum is always going to be in and trending! Zara has a super cute {hemmed long sleeve} with a nice little pocket on the front.

We are totally loving this color here at 224!! Show us how you embrace Greenery in your life :) Tag us @224apparel on Insta or FB!
